The Ministry of Public Security has instructed the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) to expedite investigations into several high-profile cases, including the 2015 bond scam and the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks. These investigations have been ongoing for years, with calls for swift justice from the public and victims’ families. The directive is intended to ensure timely and transparent resolutions to these critical cases.
Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa confirmed that the Ministry has ordered the Acting IGP to coordinate closely with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and other relevant police divisions. Among the cases receiving renewed attention is the controversial bond scam of 2015, which led to significant financial losses for the country. Additionally, the probe into the deadly 2019 Easter attacks, which resulted in hundreds of casualties, is being pushed for faster completion.
The Ministry’s directive also covers investigations into the death of prominent businessman Dinesh Schaffter and the 2011 disappearances of activists Lalith Kumar Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganathan in Jaffna.
