News Today: Final electricity tariff revision decision by PUCSL set for January 17th, 2025. Public consultations begin on December 17th.
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that the final decision regarding the electricity tariff revision proposal by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will be made on January 17, 2025. This decision will determine the electricity charges for the first six months of 2025.
To ensure public involvement, the PUCSL will hold a public consultation starting December 17, 2024. This process allows the public and other stakeholders to share their views, suggestions, and concerns about the CEB’s proposal and the PUCSL’s counterproposal, which has been drafted after thorough review by its regulatory staff.
The consultation aligns with the Public Utilities Commission Act No. 35 of 2002, the Sri Lanka Electricity Act No. 20 of 2009, and the Electricity Tariff System (Price Formula). Interested parties can submit their opinions in writing or orally until January 8, 2025, via email at info@pucsl.gov.lk, WhatsApp at 0764-271030, or by postal mail addressed to Public Consultation on Electricity Charges – PUCSL, 6th Floor, Bank of Ceylon Trade Tower, Colombo 3.
The CEB has proposed keeping the current electricity tariff unchanged for the specified period. However, the final decision will incorporate the public’s feedback to ensure fair and balanced electricity pricing.
By engaging with the public, PUCSL aims to promote transparency and accountability while addressing consumer concerns. The final tariff rates will be announced on January 17, 2025, after evaluating all feedback.
