The World Environment Day Celebrations, which was scheduled to take place tomorrow in Ratnapura under the auspices of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, will be held in a low key manner due to the prevailing disaster the Country is faced with.

The event which was to be worked off at the Sinharaja Forest Reserve at Kudawa under the patronage of the President has been shifted to the Presidential Secretariat,owing to the adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the President has instructed the officials about the money being spent on the celebrations to be utilised for disaster management relief and to compensate the victims, State Minister of Environment Janaka Wakkumbura told Legacy Daily.

When contacted, a spokesperson from the Presidential Secretariat confirmed this.
