News Today: Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe health recovery update from National Hospital Colombo
Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is reportedly showing signs of gradual recovery while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Hospital of Colombo, according to the hospital’s Acting Director, Dr. Pradeep Wijesinghe.
Dr. Wijesinghe confirmed that the former leader remains under close medical supervision, with doctors preparing for a specialised cardiac evaluation to further assess his condition.
Wickremesinghe had initially been admitted due to a deteriorating health condition, which included elevated blood pressure, fluid retention causing possible kidney strain, and reduced sodium levels in the body. These complications required urgent medical attention, and he was therefore transferred from the Prison Hospital to the National Hospital on August 23 for intensive care.
Medical specialists continue to closely monitor his progress, addressing each complication with targeted treatment until his health stabilises. While doctors remain cautious, they have expressed optimism as his body responds gradually to medical interventions. The planned cardiac evaluation is expected to provide more clarity on his recovery trajectory.
Wickremesinghe’s health condition has drawn nationwide attention, with many citizens expressing concern for the veteran politician’s well-being. Hospital officials emphasized that updates will be provided as his recovery continues.
