News Today: Hambantota Port Reports 40% Surge in RORO Vehicle Handling

The Hambantota International Port (HIP) has reported a remarkable 40 percent increase in roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vehicles handled between the second and third quarters of 2024. According to a statement from HIP, 125,526 units were processed in the second quarter, and by the end of September, this number surged to 175,583 RORO units.

This impressive growth underscores the port’s expanding capacity and efficiency in handling vehicle shipments, marking a key achievement in Sri Lanka’s logistics and shipping industry. A spokesperson for HIP highlighted that the increase is due to improved operational strategies and the port’s growing significance as a global shipping hub.
