News Today: Sri Lanka to assess non-communicable disease trends in 2025 survey – Health Ministry
The Ministry of Health has officially announced that a comprehensive national survey on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) will be conducted in Sri Lanka this year. The survey will focus on evaluating the current status and trends related to diabetes, hypertension, and other major NCDs affecting the population.
A discussion on the upcoming survey was held today with key officials and health experts. Dr. Samiddhi Samarakoon, Director of the Non-communicable Diseases Unit at the Ministry of Health, highlighted the significance of this initiative. She noted that the information collected will be crucial in guiding the nation’s health policy and planning future healthcare services that are more targeted and efficient.
Dr. Samarakoon stressed that NCDs have become a growing burden on Sri Lanka’s healthcare system, and accurate data is essential for addressing the issue effectively. The findings of the survey are expected to support the development of strategic goals aimed at reducing the prevalence of NCDs, improving patient outcomes, and optimising the allocation of health resources.
The Ministry reiterated that the data from this survey will also help align Sri Lanka’s public health strategies with global standards and ensure that the country remains proactive in combating lifestyle-related health conditions.
