Urgent Weather Advisory: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected

Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Weather Advisory Issued for Sri Lanka

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory indicating that several regions across the country will experience significant rainfall and strong winds during the next few days. Accordingly, fairly heavy showers, exceeding 50mm, are likely in certain areas within the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Furthermore, showers will occur intermittently in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts. Showers or thundershowers may also develop in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.

Meanwhile, the department warned that strong winds, ranging from 40-50 kmph, are anticipated over the Western slopes of the Central Hills and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces. These strong winds might affect the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate potential damage and ensure their safety. The Department of Meteorology continues to monitor the situation and will provide further updates as necessary.
