A high-level delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) arrived in Sri Lanka to meet with the newly formed government, led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the IMF delegation expressed appreciation for the economic reforms initiated by the new government. The IMF team, including Senior Mission Chief Dr. Peter Breuer, Resident Representative Dr. Sarwat Jahan, and Economist Ms. Manavee Abeyawickrama, held discussions at the Presidential Secretariat.
The key agenda was to review the progress of the ongoing IMF Program and facilitate the release of the fourth tranche of the $2.9 billion Extended Fund Facility. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining economic stability and continued collaboration. Representing Sri Lanka were prominent figures from the Economic Policy Council, including Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma and Senior Advisor Prof. Anil Jayantha.
The meeting marked a crucial step towards reinforcing Sri Lanka’s commitment to economic recovery and securing further international support. The IMF praised the significant changes taking place and reiterated its support for the government’s reform agenda.
