Imran Khan Nominates Omar Ayub for PM Amid Political Turmoil in Pakistan
Imran Khan, the imprisoned former cricketer and political leader, has announced Omar Ayub Khan as his chosen candidate for the Prime Minister of Pakistan, despite Ayub being currently evasive due to criminal charges.
This move comes after Khan’s party, despite winning a surprising majority in the recent elections, falls short of forming a government. Omar Ayub, a prominent figure within Khan’s party and the grandson of former military dictator Mohamed Ayub Khan, faces opposition from a coalition formed between the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), led by Nawaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, respectively. The new Prime Minister will be elected by the National Assembly members, with Ayub set to contest against Shehbaz Sharif, representing the PML-N.
