News Today: Israel airstrikes near Gaza hospitals kill 83 Palestinians, raising genocide concerns and intensifying calls for accountability under UN reports.

Israeli forces launched a fresh wave of airstrikes on Gaza, targeting areas around hospitals that remain among the few still operating in the war-torn enclave. According to medical officials, at least 83 Palestinians were killed on Thursday in these latest attacks.

Israeli forces launched a fresh wave of airstrikes on Gaza, targeting areas around hospitals that remain among the few still operating in the war-torn enclave. According to medical officials, at least 83 Palestinians were killed on Thursday in these latest attacks.

Missiles struck areas near al-Shifa and al-Ahli hospitals, both already struggling to keep patients alive amid shortages of medicine, food, and electricity. At least 15 people were killed outside al-Shifa, while four more lost their lives near al-Ahli. The strikes shattered what little safety these facilities still provided for civilians.

Hamas condemned the attacks as a “full-fledged war crime”, stressing that they came less than 24 hours after a new United Nations report accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. The group called the strikes “a blatant message of contempt for the international community”.

The UK’s Middle East Minister, Hamish Falconer, expressed shock at the bombardment of al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital, saying: “Babies in incubators and children on dialysis should not be under bombardment.” Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that the hospital was struck three times, forcing 40 patients to evacuate while another 40 remained trapped inside.

Humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders (MSF) confirmed the death of one of its staff, nurse Hussein Alnajjar, a father of three, who died from shrapnel wounds near his tent. He had worked in MSF clinics in Deir el-Balah and Khan Younis since early 2024.

The UN inquiry released this week described Israel’s campaign against Gaza’s health system as “medicide”—the systematic killing of health workers and destruction of hospitals. It also condemned Israel’s destruction of the Al Basma IVF Centre, which wiped out 4,000 embryos and 1,000 reproductive samples, calling it an act of genocide under the 1948 Convention.

As strikes continue, Gaza’s residents face the collapse of medical care, with hospitals bombed, health workers killed, and patients left to die without treatment.
