Japan’s Finance Minister Suzuki arrives in Sri Lanka
Japanese Finance Minister Shun’ichi Suzuki arrived in Sri Lanka on Thursday, January 11, 2024 on a two day official visit. .
The Japanese Finance Minister is expected to meet with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry, and will engage in a tour of several key locations including, the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
This visit comes in the wake of Japan’s recent reaffirmation of the urgency of finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on debt restructuring with Sri Lanka and other creditor nations, following a preliminary agreement reached late last year.
Japan, in its capacity as one of the co-chairs alongside France and India, oversees the committee of 15 creditor nations, which plays a key role in addressing the country’s financial crisis.
