The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported that 34 individuals have been affected by adverse weather conditions Kalutara Ratnapura over the past 24 hours. These weather events, which include heavy rainfall and strong winds, have caused significant disruption across the region.
In Kalutara, Beruwala recorded one fatality after a person was reported missing at sea. Sadly, the individual was later found deceased, highlighting the dangers posed by the turbulent conditions.
Across Kalutara and Ratnapura, the DMC has confirmed that eight houses have sustained partial damage, while one house has been completely destroyed. Emergency response teams are actively engaged in providing relief, evacuations where necessary, and temporary shelter to the affected residents.
Authorities continue to monitor weather patterns closely, with additional support being deployed to vulnerable areas. Disaster relief measures, including food distribution, temporary shelter, and medical aid, are being coordinated in collaboration with local government and community organizations.
The Meteorological Department has issued further alerts, warning residents in low-lying areas and near riverbanks to remain vigilant due to the potential for landslides and flash floods.
