News Today: President Anura Dissanayake prioritizes restoring public trust in Sri Lanka’s judicial system, addressing concerns about political interference.
Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has categorically denied any involvement in efforts to unite the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the United National Party (UNP). Responding to recent media reports, Jayasuriya reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the National Movement for Social Justice (NMSJ) and its vision for a fair and progressive Sri Lanka.
In a statement issued by NMSJ General Secretary Sunil Jayasekara, Jayasuriya clarified his stance after speculation arose regarding his purported support for unifying the SJB and UNP. Rejecting these claims, he stated, “I have no intention of engaging in power politics or aligning with any political group. My sole dedication is to advancing the public good and promoting societal well-being.”
Jayasuriya further emphasized that he remains steadfast in his mission to serve as a citizen devoted to the country’s betterment. “As someone who loves and respects Sri Lanka, my efforts will remain focused on fostering justice, equality, and a progressive society,” he added.
The former Speaker’s statement comes amidst political discussions initiated by a group of Parliamentarians aiming to bridge the divide between the SJB and UNP. However, Jayasuriya’s firm refusal underscores his detachment from party politics, reinforcing his role as a champion of non-partisan initiatives through the NMSJ.
This clarification not only distances him from current political maneuverings but also solidifies his focus on the larger goal of societal advancement.
