The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) is on high alert, deploying both aircraft and troops in preparation for potential emergencies due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions. SLAF spokesman Eranda Geeganage confirmed that Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, Commander of the Air Force, has instructed all units to be fully mobilized for relief and rescue operations. This proactive measure is part of the SLAF’s commitment to safeguard lives during natural disasters, ensuring timely assistance when required.

To enhance the monitoring of disaster situations, surveillance aircraft are on standby, ready to assess and report potential dangers from the air. A Bell-412 helicopter is strategically stationed at the Ratmalana Air Force Base, while two Bell-212 helicopters are positioned at the Hingurakgoda and Palali Air Force bases, ensuring rapid response capabilities.

Additionally, the SLAF’s specially trained Air Force Regiment Special Forces are prepared to assist in rescue operations whenever necessary. This readiness highlights the Air Force’s commitment to responding to emergencies swiftly, minimizing risks to affected communities.
