Kolkata Doctor Rape Case: CBI Investigates, Doctors Protest Nationwide
News Today: Kolkata Doctor Rape and Murder Case: CBI Investigation and Protests
Kolkata Doctor Rape and Murder Case Live Updates reveal that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continued its investigation on Wednesday by questioning Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, for the sixth consecutive day. The CBI is reportedly considering conducting a polygraph test on Ghosh due to discrepancies in his responses. This development follows nationwide outrage after a 31-year-old postgraduate doctor was allegedly raped and murdered in the hospital’s seminar hall on August 9. Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, has been arrested in connection with the case.
The incident has severely disrupted healthcare services in West Bengal, with junior doctors continuing their strike for the 13th day to demand justice for the victim. Senior doctors have been called in to fill in, but the state-run hospitals remain affected. The protesting doctors plan to hold a rally in Kolkata to press for a swift resolution of the case. The Supreme Court has intervened, ordering the removal of all media coverage showing the victim’s name, photos, and videos. A nine-member task force has been established to ensure the safety of doctors in their workplaces, and the CBI has been directed to submit a status report by August 22.
The case has also drawn criticism toward West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, with many questioning the state government’s handling of the situation. Doctors across the country continue to demand stronger laws to protect healthcare professionals.
