Lewis Hamilton to Join Ferrari in 2025 After Historic Mercedes Stint

Lewis Hamilton is set to leave Mercedes after the 2024 season, moving to Ferrari in 2025 under a multi-year agreement. Last summer, the 39-year-old committed to Mercedes with a new two-year contract, which included an option for early termination after one year—a clause Hamilton has now decided to use. Reflecting on his 11-year tenure with Mercedes, Hamilton expressed deep pride in the accomplishments achieved together. “Having been with Mercedes since I was 13, it’s been a significant part of my life. Departing was an incredibly difficult choice, yet I’m ready for a new chapter,” he remarked.

The transition to Ferrari marks one of the most notable shifts in Formula 1 history, with Hamilton set to team up with Charles Leclerc in 2025, signaling the upcoming departure of Carlos Sainz from Ferrari. Hamilton, who joined Mercedes from McLaren in 2013, has clinched six of his seven world titles with the team, winning 82 out of his record-breaking 103 races with the Silver Arrows.

Toto Wolff, the team principal at Mercedes, praised the partnership with Hamilton as the sport’s most triumphant, a collaboration that will be remembered with great pride. Hamilton acknowledged the unwavering support from his Mercedes family, especially noting Wolff’s leadership and friendship. He is determined to make his final season with Mercedes memorable by giving his utmost performance. Carlos Sainz also announced his impending exit from Ferrari at the season’s end on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
