The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has officially announced that the Local Government Elections 2025 will be held on May 6th, 2025. This confirmation follows the completion of the nomination process, marking a crucial step in the electoral timeline.

The acceptance of nominations for the upcoming LG Elections concluded at 12:00 noon yesterday. The nomination period, which began on March 17th, 2025, was conducted for 336 Local Government institutions across Sri Lanka. Following the closure of nominations, the Election Commission finalized the official election date.

In addition, the deadline for placing deposits for the elections also ended yesterday. Candidates and political parties were required to submit their deposits within the stipulated timeframe to confirm their participation in the elections.

Previously, the Election Commission had extended key deadlines for nomination and deposit submissions. However, with the nomination process now completed, the official Local Government Elections 2025 date is firmly set for May 6th.
