Luxury Vehicles Abandoned by Ministers Sparks Investigation
News Today: Investigations Begin After Ministers Abandon Luxury Vehicles
Investigations are currently underway after hundreds of luxury government vehicles, belonging to the Presidential Secretariat, were abandoned by Ministers. Wasantha Samarasinghe, a National Executive member of the National People’s Power (NPP), stated that these vehicles were not properly handed over following changes in Ministries after the appointment of the new President, Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Several jeeps previously used by former State Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and Ministry Secretaries were seen at the Baladaksha Mawatha car park in Galle Face. It was revealed that 833 vehicles are registered under the Presidential Secretariat, of which 29 have already disappeared in 2022.
Samarasinghe questioned past Presidents, including Ranil Wickremesinghe, Maithripala Sirisena, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Mahinda Rajapaksa, and Chandrika Kumaratunga, about their failure to return the public property they utilized during their tenure. He emphasized that 253 vehicles are still in use by outside agencies, many of which have now been abandoned.
This ongoing investigation highlights the need for accountability regarding the management of state assets. Further revelations are expected as the investigation continues.
