A 44-year-old man from Thelwatte, Hikkaduwa has been arrested for taking a selfie with his ballot paper at the Thelwatta Sumanarama Temple polling station in Meetiyagoda during Sri Lanka’s Presidential Election 2024. Galle District Returning Officer W. A. Dharmasiri confirmed that the man was caught by authorities while casting his vote and photographing his ballot paper, an action strictly prohibited under election regulations.

The use of mobile phones inside polling stations, counting stations, and result announcement centers is strictly forbidden, as it compromises the integrity and privacy of the voting process.
