MP Johnston Fernando Faces Travel Ban Amid Investigation

News Today: MP Johnston Fernando Faces Travel Ban in Vehicle Import Case

The Fort Magistrate’s Court imposed a foreign travel ban on former MP Johnston Fernando yesterday (10), following a request by the CID. The ban relates to an investigation into the illegal importation and use of an unregistered luxurious vehicle.

The investigation, conducted by the CID, revealed that the luxury car, manufactured in Germany, was brought to Sri Lanka under false claims. It was reported that false information was provided, stating that the car would be sent to England. However, the vehicle was used on local roads with an unregistered number plate.

Fort Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali issued the travel ban, ensuring Fernando’s involvement in the ongoing investigation. This is a significant step in addressing allegations of illegal activities involving high-profile individuals in the country. The investigation continues as authorities aim to determine the full extent of the involvement and any potential criminal activity.
