SLPP MP Namal Rajapakse will reveal the Presidential Candidate representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Perumuna (SLPP) next week. As the national organiser, Rajapakse confirmed that the party has decided to field their own candidate, rather than support the current President.

Rajapakse acknowledged differing opinions within the party but reiterated his stance on the decision. Last week, former President Mahinda Rajapakse announced that the SLPP would not back the President, despite opposition within the party. Namal Rajapakse criticized some party MPs for their inconsistent positions—initially criticizing the party for supporting Ranil Wickremesinghe and now backing the President. He emphasized that it would ultimately be up to the voters to decide on such MPs.
