Powerful Pledge: NPP Vows to Eradicate Narcotics If Elected
News Today: Anura Kumara Dissanayake pledges a narcotics-free Sri Lanka
National People’s Power (NPP) Presidential Candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that his government would prioritize the complete eradication of narcotics if elected. Speaking at a rally in Anuradhapura, Dissanayake accused politicians of actively engaging in drug trafficking and declared that they must be held accountable for their involvement in these illegal activities. He emphasized that those trading illicit substances, including politicians, would be apprehended and face justice under his leadership.
He highlighted recent incidents where Members of Parliament (MPs) were caught transporting various drugs, including cannabis, in their official vehicles. Dissanayake condemned the harm these activities have caused to Sri Lankan families, pointing out that children, in particular, have fallen victim to the country’s growing drug problem. “The narcotics trade has infiltrated society to such an extent that even sacred cities like Anuradhapura, once peaceful and safe for families, are no longer immune,” he remarked.
Dissanayake stressed that the NPP is fully committed to maintaining law and order. The NPP would not be intimidated or indebted to anyone, and its administration would ensure strict enforcement of anti-drug laws to protect future generations. He urged the public to support his vision for a narcotics-free Sri Lanka, where citizens could once again feel safe in their communities.
As part of his closing statement, Dissanayake reiterated the NPP’s firm stance on eradicating narcotics from the country, signaling a new era of accountability and safety if his party wins the upcoming election.
