News Today: New Disaster Data System Launched for Families in Crisis
Colombo, Sri Lanka – A new digital disaster data system, the info-NDRSC Disaster Related Data System, has been launched to streamline the collection and distribution of statistical data on families affected by natural disasters in Sri Lanka.
The official launch took place yesterday at the Colombo Disaster Management Center under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd).
A Revolutionary Step in Disaster Data Management
Developed in alignment with the National Statistics Development Program, this new system enables real-time data entry at the Grama Niladhari Division level and ensures standardized verification procedures. This initiative marks a major milestone in the government’s digitalization efforts, making disaster relief management more efficient and data-driven.
Alongside the data system, a quarterly newsletter, info-NDRSC, was introduced to increase awareness about disaster response efforts, relief services, and climate resilience strategies.
Government and International Support
The project received financial support from Save the Children and technical expertise from GIS Solutions (Pvt) Ltd. This collaboration ensures the system’s effectiveness in disaster preparedness, response, and rehabilitation efforts.
The launch event was a part of the Clean Sri Lanka national program and saw participation from senior officials from multiple organizations, including:

Additionally, 485 disaster relief officers from across the country attended the event, highlighting the system’s national significance.
This cutting-edge disaster data system aims to enhance disaster resilience, improve relief distribution, and ensure data-driven decision-making for affected families across Sri Lanka.
