News Today: CID Exposes New Suspects in Alleged Planned Attack on Israelis
The Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) recently disclosed new findings about potential suspects involved in an alleged planned attack targeting Israeli nationals. According to the report submitted to Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena, the TID uncovered critical evidence pointing to additional individuals suspected of planning a terrorist incident. This information arose when the suspects apprehended near Arugam Bay were questioned, revealing connections to other individuals possibly linked to the incident.
The CID informed the Magistrate of the necessity to expand their investigation, leading to the filing of a special motion. This motion seeks approval to deepen inquiries and uncover any supporting evidence to confirm the additional suspects’ involvement in the planned attack. Magistrate Amarasena granted approval, directing the CID to expedite the investigation and immediately apprehend all individuals connected with the alleged plot.
Currently, three suspects are held by the CID, having been detained since September. With further questioning underway, officials aim to verify the suspects’ links to the broader network allegedly planning attacks. The CID emphasized the importance of thorough investigation in dismantling any terror-related activities that threaten national security.
