Newly Elected MPs to Receive Exciting Benefits

News Today: Benefits for Newly Elected MPs Announced by Secretary General

The Parliamentary Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera recently announced the benefits newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) will receive, ensuring they have the necessary resources and security to perform their duties effectively.

Each MP will be entitled to a monthly allowance of Rs. 54,000, supplemented by a daily allowance of Rs. 2,500 for attending Parliament sessions or committee meetings held on non-session days.

For those MPs without homes within a 40-kilometre radius of Parliament, housing will be provided at the Madiwela MPs Official Residence Complex. Additionally, MPs will receive annual stationery and stamps worth Rs. 100,000, supporting their administrative requirements.

On the security front, each MP will be given a pistol. However, the government is still deliberating on whether to extend this provision to current MPs. Further enhancing their security, two police officers will be assigned to each MP for protection.

These benefits aim to support MPs in their parliamentary duties while addressing housing and security needs comprehensively.
