NPP Candidate Challenges President with Bold Live Debate Invite
News Today: Anura Kumara Dissanayake challenges the President in a debate on economic policies and questions IMF’s role in the election.
NPP Presidential Candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued a fresh challenge to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, inviting him for a live debate on economic policies. During a rally in Ambalantota, Dissanayake criticized the President’s statements, questioning whether the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is also contesting the upcoming election. He accused the President of making baseless claims and failing to engage in meaningful discussions.
Dissanayake emphasized his readiness to confront the President on any popular electronic media channel, focusing on policies that affect the nation’s economy. He also criticized the false narratives spread by opponents, claiming the NPP would change the national flag or cause unrest if they secure victory. Dissanayake urged security forces to ensure law and order before, during, and after the elections to prevent any instability.
He asserted, “This election is a sure win for us, and we want peace. Only the losing camp wants unrest.” The opposition’s claims of potential post-election violence, he said, are attempts to instill fear. His closing remarks focused on maintaining calm and ensuring a smooth transition.
