Powerful NPP Manifesto to Transform Sri Lanka’s Economy

The National People’s Power (NPP) Presidential Candidate MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake unveiled his election manifesto titled ‘A rich country with a beautiful life’.

The event was held in Thalawathugoda with the presence of religious dignitaries, leaders from various sectors in the country together with the NPP and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) party members.

The vision of the NPP for the country has considered building a manufacturing economy as a crucial and foremost task with more space given to science and technology.

The vision of the NPP for the country has considered building a manufacturing economy as a crucial and foremost task with more space given to science and technology.

The manifesto has focused on sectors such as natural resources, professional and skilled labour resources, mineral resources, information technology, tourism, agriculture, marine resources and creative industries.

Their expectation has been focused to make all the citizens part of the process from designing a productive economy to sharing the benefits.

The NPP manifesto with their policy statement has been divided into four main sections and contains 230 pages.

The four sections of the NPP manifesto are categorized as, (1) A perfect life – a comfortable country; (2) A dignified life – a safe country; (3) A modern life – a rich country; and (4) A proud life – a steadfast country.

Some of the highlights of the NPP manifesto are, a new constitution, an efficient health service aimed at disease prevention in order to create healthy and fit citizens, removal of duty-free vehicle permits for Members of Parliament (MPs), changes in the tax system, a pension for all, limitation of ministerial positions to 25, optimum use of mass media and a free media industry.

The manifesto also focuses on methods to recover stolen state assets; sustainable bio world providing a green life for all; a big change in the salary of the Police and to make the Police service people-friendly; making the judicial process smoother and more efficient by taking steps to introduce modern technology and providing proper training to the judges and staff; establishment of a new relief bank to restore the economic activities of micro, small and medium enterprises and provide relief for outstanding loans; establishing a new National Development Bank to provide long-term financing to entrepreneurs, start-ups and business expansion; digital governance; re-negotiating with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on how to contain and implement a more robust and accurate programme to alleviate the hardship of the poor; an efficient workforce and a dignified career; a meaningful and fulfilling life for persons with disabilities and a monthly allowance of Rs. 5,000 to senior citizens in need of subsidy.
