NPP Warns Against President’s Unscrupulous Parliament Dissolution Moves

News Today: NPP Urges Caution as President May Dissolve Parliament Post-September 21st

The National People’s Power (NPP) has issued a stern warning to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, advising against dissolving Parliament soon after the 21st of September. Attorney-at-Law Upul Kumarapperuma emphasized that while the Constitution grants the President authority to dissolve Parliament, such a decision could have serious repercussions for the country and its people.

He stressed that any power transmission to a new President must happen within the constitutional framework and uphold the democratic process. His remarks followed the Prime Minister’s hint that the President might dissolve Parliament just after the presidential election. Kumarapperuma pointed out that though the President has constitutional authority, he must avoid unscrupulous decisions that could disrupt democracy. The NPP maintains that any actions taken should prioritize the nation’s democratic values and the welfare of its citizens.
