News Today: NPP wins big in Ampara and Bope local elections results
In a significant political development, the National People’s Power (NPP) has secured overwhelming victories in two major local government bodies—Ampara Urban Council and Bope Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha. These results mark a strong show of support for the NPP at the grassroots level, reflecting growing public confidence in the party’s leadership and vision.
In Ampara, the NPP claimed 10 out of 17 seats, establishing clear dominance. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) trailed behind with 3 seats, while an Independent Group gained 2 seats. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and People’s Alliance managed just one seat each.
Meanwhile, in the Bope Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha, the NPP expanded its lead, winning 11 out of 21 seats. SJB again followed with 4 seats. The SLPP gained 3 seats, the United National Party (UNP) secured 2 seats, and 1 seat was taken by an Independent Group.
Political analysts suggest that the NPP’s win reflects public dissatisfaction with traditional political parties and a desire for reform-driven governance. These local wins may act as a springboard for the party in future national elections.
The NPP wins big in Ampara and Bope local election results signal a changing political tide in Sri Lanka, and their impact could ripple across other provincial and national elections in the months ahead.
