Pastor Jerome Fernando granted bail

Pastor Jerome Fernando who was held in remand custody over inflammatory comments made during a Sunday sermon, was granted bail today by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

Jerome Fernando was ordered to be released on a cash bail of Rs. 500,000 with two sureties amounting to Rs.10 million. The Court further issued an order preventing him from leaving the country.

Fernando was arrested and remanded on December 1, under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act, over allegations that he was inciting hate among religious communities in Sri Lanka.
