Important Alert: Police Warn Public of Dangerous Online Scams

News Today: Sri Lankan Police warn public of online scams causing bank losses

Sri Lankan Police have issued an urgent warning to the public, highlighting a surge in online scams that have led to significant financial losses for bank customers. According to a police spokesperson, scammers have been targeting individuals by persuading them to reveal their One-Time Passwords (OTPs), which are sent by banks during transactions.

The spokesperson emphasized that banks never request OTPs from their customers. However, many individuals have been tricked into sharing these sensitive details, resulting in a series of fraudulent activities and subsequent financial losses. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and never disclose their OTPs to anyone, even if they seem to be from legitimate sources.

Police advise customers to always double-check any suspicious messages or calls, especially those asking for personal banking information.
