News Today: President’s Economic Policy to Address Sri Lanka’s Issues
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake recently announced a comprehensive economic policy for 2024 to address Sri Lanka’s structural economic issues. These policies aim to eradicate nepotism, corruption, and the abuse of power, fostering a political culture aligned with the people’s aspirations.
President Dissanayake highlighted last year’s progress, which included achieving surface-level economic stability and emerging from bankruptcy, thanks to efforts from the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank, and political leadership. He acknowledged the critical role played by law enforcement and intelligence agencies in maintaining national security, citing decisive actions following a potential threat in Arugam Bay.
A key focus of the new policy is reinstating the rule of law and combating corruption. President Dissanayake emphasized that corruption, a pervasive issue, must be eradicated through concerted efforts. He called on the Attorney General’s Department and government institutions to perform their duties with dedication, ensuring transformation.
The President also reiterated the importance of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, stressing that public participation is essential for its success. He encouraged state institutions to actively contribute and assured that political leaders would lead by example.
This transformative agenda underlines a commitment to rebuilding Sri Lanka’s economy and fostering good governance for sustainable development.
