Politicians Interfering in Investigations, Says Ministry

News Today: Politicians Accused of Scuttling High-Profile Crime Investigations

Public Security Ministry Secretary Ravi Seneviratne has alleged that certain politically connected groups are attempting to disrupt investigations into high-profile crimes, including the Easter Sunday attacks. He warned that such interference is a deliberate effort to destabilize the country and will not be tolerated.

Political Influence in High-Profile Investigations

Speaking at a press conference at the Government Information Department, Seneviratne emphasized that national intelligence and law enforcement agencies have identified efforts to incite public unrest as the government moves forward with key investigations.

“These groups are trying to derail the probes because they fear the legal consequences,” he stated, stressing that any interference in legal proceedings will be dealt with strictly.

Links Between Politicians and Underworld Criminals

Seneviratne’s statements come amid a rise in underworld violence, where rival gangs are engaged in deadly clashes, often operating from neighboring countries. He pointed to recent notorious killings, including:

Ganemulle Sanjeewa, who was shot inside the Hulftsdorp Court complex
Triple murder in Middeniya (Southern Province)

According to him, police swiftly arrested suspects in both cases within hours, proving that law enforcement is actively working to curb organized crime.

The Secretary also highlighted evidence linking certain politicians to underworld criminals, reinforcing concerns about political interference in law enforcement efforts.

Government’s Commitment to Justice

Authorities remain firm in their stance that no one is above the law, and attempts to disrupt investigations will not succeed. The Public Security Ministry has vowed to prosecute individuals responsible for violent crimes, regardless of political affiliations.

As Sri Lanka faces critical security challenges, the government’s efforts to ensure justice and stability will be closely monitored by the public.
