News Today: President Anura Kumara Dissanayake public service speech highlights values
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that a nation needs a public service built on professionalism, competence, discipline, and accountability in every sector. He stressed that maintaining these values is essential to building public trust and ensuring national progress.
Speaking at the awarding of the President’s Colours and the commissioning of cadet officers of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), held on Saturday (18) at the Sri Lanka Air Force Academy in China Bay, the President praised the SLAF for consistently upholding high standards of professionalism throughout its honourable legacy.
President Dissanayake highlighted the important role of the Sri Lanka Air Force in combating drug trafficking and illegal maritime activities. He also acknowledged the Air Force’s contributions during natural disasters and national emergencies.
Under the theme “Safeguard the Lankan Skies,” the No. 03 Maritime Squadron of the Sri Lanka Air Force was awarded the President’s Colours for its operational excellence, dedication, and service to the nation.
Addressing the newly commissioned officers, he said:
“Today, 66 officer cadets are being commissioned after a disciplined and rigorous training programme. You now belong to a prestigious and respected force. Your foremost responsibility is to uphold its honour and reputation. One act of misconduct can tarnish the image of the entire institution.”
He further emphasized that the safety of the nation’s skies now rests in the hands of these officers. Protecting the motherland, preserving peace, and carrying forward the dignity of the Air Force is a duty that must be fulfilled with integrity and commitment.
