President Urges Northern Voters Not to Alter Voting Pattern
News Today: President Advises Northern Voters to Maintain Voting Pattern
President Ranil Wickremesinghe has advised voters in the Northern Province to maintain their voting pattern, in response to NPP candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s call for them to mirror the Southern Province’s voting choices. Speaking at a rally in Jaffna, President Wickremesinghe reminded Northern voters of their past decisions in elections, pointing out how their votes for Sarath Fonseka in 2010, Maithripala Sirisena in 2015, and Sajith Premadasa in 2019 did not align with the choices made in the South. He highlighted that despite differences in voting, Northern voters had not faced negative repercussions, particularly with Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s presidency.
The President also criticized Anura Kumara Dissanayake, suggesting that he owes an apology to both the Northern and Sinhalese people for exerting undue influence and tarnishing the Sinhalese reputation. Wickremesinghe further advised the public to avoid wasting their votes on Sajith Premadasa, implying that doing so would not yield any meaningful results.
He concluded by encouraging Northern voters to stick with their current voting habits, which he believes will prevent any unfavorable outcomes.
