NPP Blasts President Over Misusing State Resources – Urgent Update

News Today: NPP Accuses President of Misusing State Resources for Election Campaigns

The National People’s Power (NPP) accused the President of misusing state funds, vehicles and other resources to increase awareness ahead of the Presidential race.

He urged the Elections Commission to inquire into this matter.

NPP politburo member Sunil Hadunnetti told Legacy Daily that the misuse of state funds for election practices have been a common occurrence for many years and that it was the Aragalaya who opposed it.

He alleged that various committees are being set up so that the Political campaigns across all districts are being covered. Community Police,Foreign Employment Ministry together with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) are all involved in carrying out these functions.

He reiterated that even musical shows, Poson celebrations and other carnivals were being organized on the ‘pretext’ of conducting good deeds.

He said the President is engaged in various other distribution programmes that costs the Government dearly.

“The expenditure heads of the President is used for these campaigns. Additional funds were also allocated by Parliament for the President recently. He is using these funds for his election campaigning even before announcing his candidacy,” he said.

Hadunnetti concluded that these campaigns were scheduled to continue even after the declaration of the election and added that the Elections Commission must initiate action against this,as soon as possible.
