President targets Global Market for Sri Lanka’s Chocolates

During the 30th Annual General Meeting of the Lanka Confectionary Manufacturers Association (LCMA) held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo, President Ranil Wickremesinghe outlined his vision for Sri Lankan chocolates to achieve global recognition. Building on the international success of Sri Lankan teas and cinnamon, the President challenged the nation’s confectionery sector to aim for a prominent position in the worldwide chocolate market. Acknowledging the success of Sri Lankan teas and cinnamon globally, the President posed the question, “How long before I can take chocolates and go?”

President Wickremesinghe encouraged local confectioners to seize export opportunities and position Sri Lankan chocolates alongside the country’s celebrated tea and cinnamon on the global stage.

Highlighting the importance of exploring international markets, the President pointed to the historical success of brands like Kandos in Malaysia as an inspiration for potential growth beyond domestic boundaries.

President Wickremesinghe’s comments reflect his broader strategy for Sri Lanka to diversify its export portfolio and enter competitive new markets.
