President is in UAE for World Government Summit 2025

News Today: Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is in Dubai for the World Government Summit 2025.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, along with his official delegation, arrived at Dubai International Airport yesterday to participate in the World Government Summit (WGS) 2025, scheduled from February 11th to 13th in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Warm Welcome and Key Meetings

Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly received by Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, along with other high-ranking officials. Sri Lankan Embassy Charge d’Affaires Thakshila Arnolda and Consul General Alexi Gunasekera also attended the reception.

Later that day, President Dissanayake met with Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Master Investment Group, to discuss economic and investment cooperation between Sri Lanka and the UAE.

Following this, the President attended the TIME 100 Gala Dinner at the iconic Museum of the Future in Dubai.

Participation in the World Government Summit 2025

During his visit, President Dissanayake is scheduled to address the World Government Summit 2025, which brings together world leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss futuristic governance, technological advancements, and global challenges.

This year’s summit is expected to host representatives from over 150 countries and more than 4,000 participants, making it a premier event for global policy discussions and innovation exchanges.

Bilateral Meetings and Investment Discussions

Apart from attending the summit, President Dissanayake will hold bilateral meetings with Heads of State and top government officials from various nations.

Key meetings include:

  • Bilateral talks with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to enhance cooperation in multiple sectors.
  • Discussions with UAE Vice President & Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.
  • Investment meetings with executives from leading global corporations in IT, Artificial Intelligence (AI), energy, tourism, finance, and media, aimed at attracting foreign investments to Sri Lanka.

Accompanying President Dissanayake on this visit is Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath.
