President Warns of Returning to Shortages or Building Prosperity
News Today: President Ranil Wickremesinghe urges voters to decide between prosperity and shortages
Independent Presidential Candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe urged voters to make a pivotal choice in this year’s Presidential Election, emphasizing that they must decide between building a prosperous and stable economy or regressing into an era of shortages and queues. Speaking at the “Ranil Can” (Ranil ta Puluwan) victory rally in Badulla yesterday, Wickremesinghe issued a stern warning, highlighting the consequences of not continuing the economic recovery efforts his administration has set in motion.
Wickremesinghe called on the public to avoid making decisions that would plunge the country back into the hardships of previous years, which saw long queues for essentials and widespread economic instability. He stressed the importance of ensuring continued economic reforms, which, according to him, have laid the foundation for future stability.
During his speech, Wickremesinghe did not hesitate to criticize his political opponents, accusing them of failing to rise to the occasion during moments of national crisis. He remarked that while others shied away from challenges, he prioritized the needs of the people, stepping up to lead the country through tough times.
Wickremesinghe passionately asked voters to give him a mandate to continue the work he started, focusing on long-term solutions rather than short-term fixes. He maintained that choosing a path backward would undo the progress that has been achieved and leave the country vulnerable to further instability.
