Presidential Advisor Denies Unusual Loans: Government Funds Normal

News Today: Senior Presidential Advisor Denies Special Loans by New Government

Senior Presidential Advisor on Economic and Financial Affairs, Prof. Anil Jayantha, has firmly denied media reports claiming that the new government has acquired special or unusual loans. Prof. Jayantha clarified that no extraordinary borrowing has taken place since President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s appointment, except for the regular process of securing funds from the local financial market to meet the government’s operational needs and repay matured treasury bills and treasury bonds.

Speaking to the media, the professor emphasized that these regular borrowings are essential for covering daily government expenses and running public services. He further explained that the Central Bank consistently sells treasury bills and bonds every week to collect funds and repays maturing debts as scheduled. “This process is a normal part of the government’s financial operations, and nothing special has changed with the election of a new president,” Prof. Jayantha said.

His statements come after speculation arose about an increase in local and foreign borrowing under the new government. The senior advisor’s remarks were intended to address these concerns and reassure the public that the country’s borrowing practices have remained stable and within normal parameters.
