News Today: Rains and Windy Conditions to Continue Today

The rains and windy conditions are expected to continue today, according to the Forecasting Division of the National Meteorological Centre. The active South-West monsoonal condition is causing these prevailing windy conditions over the island. Showers are forecasted in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.

Fairly heavy showers of about 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts. Residents in these areas are advised to be prepared for significant rainfall that could lead to localized flooding and other rain-related disruptions.

In addition to the rains, strong winds of about 60 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces. The districts of Trincomalee, Moneragala, and Hambantota are also likely to experience these strong winds.

Elsewhere on the island, strong winds of about 40 kmph can be expected at times. These windy conditions may affect daily activities, particularly in areas prone to wind-related hazards. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to secure outdoor items and to be cautious when traveling.

The National Meteorological Centre continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Stay tuned to local news and weather updates for the latest information on the weather conditions.
