Former President Demands Immediate Salary Hike for Public Servants Now

News Today: Former President calls for immediate salary increase for public servants

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has urged the government to implement the salary increase for public servants as per the legal Cabinet decision he made during his tenure as Finance Minister. Speaking at a special discussion with State Employees Trade Unions at the New Democratic Front office on Flower Road, Colombo, Wickremesinghe emphasized the urgency of fulfilling this commitment.

He stated that had he won the Presidential election, his plan was to increase the salaries of public servants starting next January. However, since the decision had already been made, he insisted that the current government must implement the salary raise immediately.

“If the salary increase is not granted, then the government must explain where the allocated funds have gone,” Wickremesinghe demanded, challenging the government’s transparency on this issue.

The former President highlighted the importance of supporting public servants in these difficult economic times and urged the government to act promptly to honor the previous commitment.
