Sajith Premadasa Exposes Govt’s Broken Promises

News Today: Sajith Premadasa exposes Government at May Day 2025

At the May Day rally held in Talawakelle, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader launched a scathing attack on the current Government, accusing it of failing the people through false promises and poor governance.

Addressing thousands under the theme ‘Workers’ Power to Win the Village’, Premadasa pointed out that despite the Government being led by academics and intellectuals, it has been unable to provide even basic essentials like salt to citizens. He called out the administration’s failure to fulfill key pledges made during the Presidential and General Elections, particularly on the promise of reduced commodity prices.

Premadasa highlighted that prices of daily necessities such as rice, milk powder, and coconut have reached unaffordable levels, making it difficult for ordinary people to survive. He also voiced deep concern over the escalation of crime and lawlessness, including underworld activities and killings within court premises, calling it a reflection of the Government’s lack of control and justice.

The Opposition Leader pledged to restore public confidence and implement a decentralized, people-focused governance model, emphasizing the role of local councils, Police, and Security Forces in ensuring law and order.

He further criticized the Government for failing to deliver public sector jobs to 35,000 graduates, a major electoral promise. He urged the public to support the SJB in the upcoming Local Government Elections to bring real change to the country.

Nuwara Eliya MP Palani Thigambaram, leader of the Workers’ National Union, supported Premadasa’s claims, stating that if Sajith had been elected president, the livelihoods of upcountry communities would have greatly improved.
