Sajith Premadasa’s Bold Plan for Police Pay Reform Unveiled Today
News Today: Presidential Candidate Premadasa Pledges ‘One Rank One Pay’ System
Presidential candidate and Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has pledged to introduce a ‘One Rank One Pay’ system for the Police service to address existing pay anomalies. Speaking at a rally in Nikaweratiya, Premadasa criticized the current government’s approach to public sector salaries and promised to extend the temporary special allowance currently provided to the police under a future SJB government.
“We will ensure that all police officers are paid fairly, and we will continue the special allowance for the police. Additionally, we are committed to addressing the needs of those in the education sector and all public servants,” Premadasa stated.
As part of his broader campaign promises, Premadasa also announced measures to support various community sectors. A 50 kg bag of fertilizer will be provided at Rs 5,000, and fuel will be allocated via QR codes to farmers, fisherfolk, three-wheelers, school vans, and Shakthi rice mill owners. These steps are intended to alleviate the economic burden on these groups and ensure equitable access to essential resources.
Premadasa criticized the current regime for favoring a select few, noting, “The government has written off loans for large-scale businessmen and provided them with loans without collateral. If they can forgive these loans, there is no reason why loans for farmers cannot be written off as well.”
Responding to skeptics who doubt the feasibility of his manifesto, Premadasa said, “Some say my manifesto cannot be implemented. However, we have demonstrated our ability to provide assistance to schools and hospitals, and we will show how we will fulfill these promises.”
