Security Intensified in Sri Lanka to Protect Foreign Groups

News Today: Security beefed up in Sri Lanka to protect foreign groups from threats

Acting IGP Priyantha Wijesuriya assured that security measures have been intensified in specific areas across Sri Lanka following intelligence reports suggesting that foreign groups in the country could be targets of a potential attack. Speaking to Legacy Daily, Wijesuriya stated that the National Security Council (NSC), in consultation with the President, took immediate steps to address these concerns.

He confirmed that all foreigners in Sri Lanka are under heightened security, with embassies across the country being informed of the situation. This is in direct response to intelligence indicating potential threats. “The safety of foreign nationals is our priority, and we have acted swiftly to ensure that security has been strengthened in all relevant locations,” Wijesuriya noted.

However, he reassured that there are no planned attacks on local citizens. He urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, requesting that they immediately inform the police if they receive any information related to potential terrorist threats.

With this intensified security effort, Sri Lanka aims to mitigate risks and prevent any harm to its tourism and international relations.
