SJB Challenges Former President’s Privilege Requests via RTI Act

News Today: SJB Files RTI on Former President’s Privilege Request

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) party has filed a Right to Information (RTI) application regarding former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s request for additional privileges. SJB Legal Secretary Farman Cassim submitted the RTI application to inquire about the specific details of privileges that Wickremesinghe’s Security Head, Nizam Jamaldeen, allegedly requested on behalf of the former President. Rehan Jayawickama, the SJB Weligama Organiser and former Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, highlighted that the party is awaiting a response from the President’s office.

This move comes after a purported letter from Jamaldeen was made public, sparking controversy over the extent of the privileges requested. The SJB aims to ensure transparency through the RTI application, addressing public concerns regarding the potential misuse of state resources for personal benefit.
