SLPP Founder Basil Rajapaksa Leaves Sri Lanka on Medical Grounds

News Today: SLPP founder Basil Rajapaksa leaves Sri Lanka on medical grounds.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) founder Basil Rajapaksa has left Sri Lanka on medical grounds, as confirmed by General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam. Speaking to Legacy Daily, Kariyawasam explained that Basil’s departure had been delayed due to his involvement in organizing election campaigns for his nephew, Namal Rajapaksa. Despite his medical concerns, Basil remained committed to party responsibilities until now.

“Basil Rajapaksa had informed the party that he was leaving the country for medical tests,” said Kariyawasam. “After completing the necessary medical evaluations, he is expected to return soon to take charge and lead SLPP into the upcoming general election.”

As a central figure in the party, Basil’s absence is notable, but his swift return is expected to play a key role in the SLPP’s electoral campaign strategies for the next general election.

This development underscores Basil Rajapaksa’s significant influence in shaping the future political landscape of Sri Lanka.
