News Today: Sri Lanka Transport Records Rs 200 Million Daily During Festive Period
In a significant boost for public transportation, the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has reported an impressive income of nearly Rs. 600 million over just four days, driven by the high travel demand during the recent festive season. This remarkable achievement translates to a daily revenue of approximately Rs. 200 million, marking one of the most profitable periods in recent years for the state-run transport service.
According to SLTB Deputy General Manager R.T. Chandrasiri, this surge in revenue came as thousands of people traveled to their hometowns and villages to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. To efficiently manage the seasonal rush, around 350 additional buses were deployed across the country, ensuring smoother operations and increased accessibility for passengers.
The strategic increase in bus services helped ease congestion and provided an essential public service to citizens looking to reconnect with family and traditions. Routes across the island saw increased frequency, particularly those leading to rural areas, highlighting the SLTB’s commitment to serving the nation during critical periods.
