News Today: Energy Ministry Advances Solar Panels Installed on Religious Shrines in Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Energy announced the successful installation of 976 solar panel systems on religious shrines across Sri Lanka, achieved with financial backing from the Government of India. This project, which is part of a USD 17 million Indian-funded initiative, also involves collaboration with the Ceylon Electricity Board, Sustainable Energy Authority, and Lanka Electricity Company. Aimed at a sustainable and people-centered energy shift, the initiative marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward renewable energy.

Under the project, five-kilowatt (5 kW) solar panel systems were recently installed on four more shrines, carried out by Premier Energies Limited and Access Solar Pvt. Limited. The project reflects a strong push towards a greener Sri Lanka by empowering religious institutions to contribute to the nation’s energy transition.

To date, a total of 2,572 solar panel systems have been delivered, with plans for further installations. The Ministry also confirmed that 3,500 solar panel sets have already been imported for nationwide distribution, underscoring the ongoing progress of this eco-friendly endeavor, which seeks to create a sustainable energy model for all.
