Sri Lanka Cricket’s Ban Overturned by International Cricket Council

The ban imposed on Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) by the International Cricket Council (ICC) has been revoked effective immediately, the sport’s governing body announced on Sunday.

Sri Lanka Cricket faced suspension on November 10, 2023 due to violations of ICC membership rules, specifically regarding the autonomy of cricket management and the prevention of government interference in cricket’s governance and administration within Sri Lanka.

On 21 November, the ICC Board convened and resolved that Sri Lanka is eligible to participate in international cricket, including both bilateral series and ICC tournaments. However, the ongoing U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, initially scheduled in Sri Lanka, was relocated to South Africa.

Following a period of observation, the ICC Board has concluded that SLC has addressed the issues leading to their suspension and is no longer violating ICC membership requirements.
